El Diablo Loco

We visited this place at the recommendation of friends. While they love the place we found the food to be "okay." The meats were overseasoned while the rice and beans were a bit on the bland side. We went during dinner, which meant the small location was packed and loud. I'm willing to give this place another go, but if order something different than the tacos.

Adorable atmosphere, super fun and funky cantina bar vibe. The food was great too! I has one of the specials, which was a pork bbq dish and it was fantastic. We will surely be back.

Another good reason to come to Phoebus. Good food, great atmosphere and decor. Classic bar seating or you can grab a table. So many drink options and a knowledgeable staff to help you with it all.

This place has some of the best service I have had in a long time. The staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. And the food was amazing. We will definitely be going back very soon.

The Brisket Big Burrito is a 10/10! The food in general is pretty solid, shaky beer selection like any other Mexican spot, but definitely a must try in the Phoebus, VA area.

Great food and super friendly staff. We sat right by the chef's station and our mouths were watering watching everything plated up. Jason took our order and had us laughing every time he checked on us. Will definitely be heading back to try some more dishes!

Poor experience. Was told by friends was a good local spot for Mexican cuisine. Drinks (fake margaritas) overpriced for their size. Not given customary chips and salsa; instead was a “side” they placed on my FRIED chicken enchilada. Picked around the crumbs and not pleased. Hostess was a very nice young man and waiter was energetic and polite. Overall not authentic Mexican food.

Best taco spot in Hampton Roads. It's always a treat when their homemade hot sauces are available. All options for the tacos are great, but I always grab the pollo, it's simple but amazing. Their rice and beans side with the taco dinner are delectable. The secret is out about El Diablo and it's typically pretty packed at dinner time if you don't mind a bit of a wait. If you have the opportunity to go for lunch take it, you won't regret it.

*First visit*The food was great!! Absolutely enjoyed being there with great company but waiting was pretty long to be seated and food came in 40 minutes. That's why I gave four stars. Food is awesome. However, it took us 35 minutes to get seated and several people who arrived well after us were seated. We were not the only ones skipped 2 couples left in disgust.

Brisket enchilada with rice and beans was great. Guacamole was good. Waitstaff was good. Chicken enchilada the chicken was so dry/overcooked I only tried to eat one piece. Had to drink water to wash it down.

Like my 4th time going. I loved today's special. Every time I go the food is awesome..

They have a good variety on the menu and make the meal with good flavor. It funny that use some words in Spanish. Good experience.

This place is small and can get busy so be prepared to wait just a few and then make some new friends! The drinks are tasty and the meals even tastier! Though please, don't tell anyone...

El Diablo Loco is easily the best establishment in Phoebus. Legitimate Mexican inspired tacos, good queso, and a choose your own adventure Margarita bar with literally dozens of different kinds of tequilas to choose from. Five dollar Modelos with a shot of cheap tequila keep the party going as luchadors cascade across the walls and television screens through the narrow, but festively decorated restaurant. Service boasts a full service bar, several tables, and a chef's table adjoining service. Every time I've been here - and it has been several - I've had absolutely nothing less than exceptional service. So please go... have some tacos, have some tequila, have some street corn, and bring some friends to join the party. :-)

What a GREAT little place! Great food and FABULOUS drinks!!! I like that you can sit at the bar and watch the chefs go all out in making their dishes. They know how to hustle is here and get the food out with high quality and fast service. The prices may be a bit high for some but well worth it. I have been in here twice, consistent service and food which is a big thing for me. A great place for a date.

Big portions, delicious food. I had the rice and beans bowl with brisket and the wife had it with grilled chicken. Took half of it home! I would recommend the queso and sour cream on the side, it came with a lot and got things kind of soggy. Four stars only because there was no lunch menu on Saturday and was $40 for 2.

Awesome place! Small and cozy, with an extensive tequila menu. For two dollars more, you choice of tequila will be made into a margarita. The wait staff are friendly and knowledgeable. And the food is amazing!

What a cute little hidden gem located in the Phoebus area of Hampton! Drink selection was admirable. The nachos were definitely something to write home about! I stopped in following my class reunion because it was in the area. Not only was I not disappointed, I look forward to going back sometime soon to try other menu items. If you're looking for a casual night out, check them out!

Good customer service..but not the topical Hispanic food at all. They don't give you any entree like other Mexican restaurants, not salsas, nothing, pretty plane, the tacos were good but I visited better and real Hispanic places around Newport news

The food was really out of this world. It was very packed though with an extremely long wait. A couple times I had to get up and find my waitress to ask for food. Had the mangolada and the frozen margherita. The frozen was good and the speciality drink was borderline okay. In the future I might order over the phone for pick up as the food really was amazing. Service was not satisfactory though leaving me with the impression that they are not used too a large group of customers at once.

The misses had the Taco Salad, and described it as overly salty, and with odd choices for the mix. The shell was crisp and well fried, but wouldn't recommend the Taco salad again. I had the especial, Volcano Tacos, wouldn't recommend them, they're red, and grossly overly sauced. Drinks weren't bad (save for the fruit fly), but our food experience was less than stellar.Our waitress was excellent and very pleasant, so, that was nice.Oh, jeese, our table was just flooded out from the kitchen while I was writing this. Oof.

Food was awesome. Had the brisket burrito and husband has the three tacos. Sat at the bar and watched food being made. Awesome crew tonight. Definitely go back lots of times.

Had lunch with a coworker on way back to Richmond from Fort Monroe. Excellent service Our waiter was the manager. Very knowledgeable. Ordered tacos 🌮 and chips with queso. The brisket was outstanding. Decor was Mexican eclectic. Warm and inviting. The bar: Tequilas galore. Made a note to return when I could have a beverage. Pricey. Lunch + soda + tip = $17

I dont know what people see in this place. The chips were extremely salty and that's the only way you can get them since they come in a bag. The chicken enchiladas were edible but not something I would eat again. My husband got 3 different tacos. The only one he liked was the brisket one. Sorry to say we probably wont go back.

Cozy place with great food. Went on Wednesday. They had half off margaritas, on the rocks or frozen along with other specials.

Hit or miss. The big burrito was great! As were the beans and rice. However. The enchilada tastes like it had been cooked in the far corner of the grille that doesnt get scrubbed as well as the rest. Not appetizing at all. Service was super friendly, kitchen was slow but it was pretty busy.

Great cantina and taqueria. Fun atmosphere. Chips and queso were great. Brussel sprout appetizer was the best brussels I've had. Tacos and margs both great. Service was top notch. Overall excellent experience.

Quality restaurant, great staff. Atmosphere is nice. Close quarters but not really too rowdy unless it’s the weekend or late at night.If I were you, order food when you order your appetizer. Food kinda takes a while but I won’t fault them for it. They have a small kitchen and serve VERY large portions. Had a great meal of chicken, chorizo and brisket tacos. Rice and pinto beans that came with my 3 taco dinner were delicious. I sat at the bar so hot to watch the food prep staff working which was fun. The staff, while busy, were polite to each other and the other patrons at the bar. I wouldn't want people watching me work but they handle that additional stress of an audience very well. Great vibe and staff. I'll be returning to try their other menu items and specials.
